In 1932 and 1933 brush arbor meetings were held in the community now recognized as the Davis Memorial Community.  Some of the Christian people attending these meetings began meeting at the Freeman schoolhouse in 1934.  After a year had passed, the need was seen to establish a new church.  On October 13, 1935, Davis Memorial Baptist church was established.  Bro. H. D. Hagar was elected moderator at the organizational meeting.  Klemmie Davis served as clerk for the meeting.  Devotional was conducted by Bro. Dee Brewer and the congregation sang, “I  Am Thine, Oh, Lord.”  Bro. Hagar spoke on, “The Duties of an Independent New Testament Church.”   Members of the presbytery were, Bro. A. W. Porter,  R. L. Utley, Dee Brewer, Thomas Tilley, Harvey D. Rogers, and Clarence Rogers.

On October 28, 1935, a Sunday School was organized.  Woodson Covington was elected as Director, Opal Covington was chosen as Secretary, and Vivian Bradberry named as Treasurer.  Teachers were Opal Covington,  Vivian Bradberry,  Klemmie Davis, and Edie May Gallimore.

On November 8, 1935 a pastor for the newly formed church was elected.  A motion was made and seconded to “run” Bro. A. W. Porter and Bro. R. L. Utley for the position.  Bro. Porter won the election and served as the first pastor.  A motion was made and seconded to elect a church Treasurer and Clerk.  Opal Covington and Paul Parham were elected to these posts respectively.  The congregation sang “Amazing Grace” and adjourned.
